One of the problems with ERP is getting the users well enough trained in the system to make effective use of it. As Bay points out this has been a constant problem with ERP and unlike a lot of ERP's problems it is not getting significantly better.Bay's suggestion is an updated version of an old method. Using super users -- people who are more knowledgeable about the system to assist their co-workers. As he points out, this is a traditional method of dealing with complex systems.
Bay makes his case well and the super user has a lot of attractions. I'm not sure how well it would work in practice (and Bay admits it's not perfect) but there's food for thought here for anyone struggling with an ERP system.
